The TEI is based off a bunch of source ODD files. These generate all of the TEI schemas and the TEI documentation for the tei-c website. Syd Bauman (of the WWP) has also created ODD customizations specifically for writing ODDs. The schemas generated from Syd’s ODD are customizations of those original TEI ODDs.
The schemas generated from Syd’s customizations (odds4odds) are used to validate your ODD files. When you generate your schema, you also are taking information from the TEI source ODDs. Your customization is then used to validate your files.
This information is not necessary to your understanding of the ODD customization process, but it’s good to know if you are interested in the backend of the TEI.
