Colophons [014]

Abstract

Encoding colophons using <titleBlock type="colophon">

Discussion

The WWP uses the element <titleBlock type="colophon"> to encode colophons. The <titleBlock> element is an element developed by the WWP, substantially the same as the TEI <titlePage> element, which covers the domain of title pages, colophons, and other places in the volume where document imprint information may be found (for instance, caption titles and half-title pages).

As with title pages, we do not use <address> to encode address information (if any) within the colophon. However, we do encode references to the printer, publisher, bookseller, or other figures involved in the production or distribution of the document, using <docRole>. Publication dates are encoded using <docDate>, and imprint information is enclosed within <docImprint>.
