Updated inventory of our skills thus far

Here are the basic customization tasks we now know how to do:

  • Including modules
  • Trimming down modules by deleting elements
  • Constraining our attribute values
  • Deleting attributes and attribute classes
  • Deleting entire classes of elements
  • Adding new elements to our schema

Some more challenging things we’re not going to cover (but you should know about):

  • Altering model classes: what elements belong to them, where they can go
  • Including elements from other languages (EAD, MODS, SVG, ...) in your schema
  • Changing the content models for specific elements
  • Creating more nuanced content models using RELAX NG
  • Creating additional constraints using Schematron
  • Writing non-TEI languages using the ODD system

And some things that are just plain impossible:

  • Writing non-XML languages using the ODD language

This slide contains an inventory of the customization skills and tasks convered thus far. If you are unfamiliar with any of these skills, refer back to this tutorial and the Overview of Customization tutorial.
