Overall goal: develop an initial set of research questions that
could be the basis for an article or blog post.
Individually:
Briefly describe the topic or research area you’re
investigating
Write down 2-3 initial research questions; be as specific as you
can
If you’re not using your own corpus, identify which of the available
corpora you will use
Within the group:
Share your research questions and think about how to make them more
actionable and precise
Brainstorm some queries that each group member might use to get at
their research question(s)
Test the queries and discuss the results
Broader issues to consider:
Think about how research questions emerge and evolve in the context of
these methods, and how to incorporate these methods in a research
argument
Explain what’s going on as your inquiry proceeds: what guided your
exploration? How would you characterize your process (play,
experimentation, testing, etc.)?
Think about how others might respond to or evaluate your
results
Think about how you might test the results you get and assess/explain
their reliability, validity, and persuasiveness
Think about how this work might engage with existing scholarship or
connect with any research that you’re interested in
