Session 12: Hands-on treasure hunt (part 2)

Another forensic exercise! What do you find in the “experimental training” models that reveals the impacts of the following?

• A model trained with a very small window (think about the effect this might have on the model’s behavior when you query it)
• A model trained with a very large number of dimensions
• A model trained on a very small corpus

Questions for discussion:

• For those who have their own corpora: what features of your own corpus might be manifesting in your models? What changes might you want to make for a corpus that you would use in the classroom?
• Thinking about your own corpus and the parameters and data preparation processes we used: can you find evidence of the model training process and how it might be affecting your results?
• How might the model training process affect the ways you can use the model in a classroom setting? Are there situations where flawed models might be useful?
